Dentistry In The USA - You Have To Be Rich To Afford It! - NY Times

For many US middle-class families - dental emergencies and large treatments such as oral restorations are a huge, uninsured family budget wrecking event. And many are going without treatment and ending up in hospital emergency wards which are unable to provide proper dental care.

Dental care in the US is increasingly becoming something that only the upscale segment of society can afford causing many to leave the US on “Dental Vacations” to Mexico and Asia to find affordable dental care. -ed

By Reed Abelson for NY Times

With dental costs rising and employers cutting dental coverage, an increasing number of working Americans cannot afford to see a dentist even for chronic problems. If you need a full-mouth restoration, several root canals, 27 crowns or dental implants - most dental insurance won’t cover you.

During the Iraq war, some reservists and Guard members chose to have their teeth pulled so that they could be deployed, said Maj. Gen. Robert A. McIntosh,in testimony before Congress.

"Although promised restorative dental work, their reward for their loyalty and patriotism will be dentures," he said. Dental implants, a better alternative to dentures, are not covered because they are more expensive.

In a nation where a person's smile is considered a sign of general well-being and an important factor in landing a job, dental care is becoming ever more unequal, policy specialists say. In 2000, the Surgeon General issued a report describing the silent epidemic of dental and oral diseases.

A DANGEROUS NEW VIRUS IS UPON US ~ People die from it everyday, everywhere...

TAKE AWAY ONE HAND - A New Virus is Causing Mutation and is Killing Us.

Like a plague, it is causing psychological damage, serious injuries and  deaths. Mutation of the human species is the long-term prognosis.  I call it the G-Virus..

TAKE AWAY ONE HAND

By Doctor Cristina Terrado MD

Smart phones and other hand-held gadgets entertain, inform, and allow us to communicate.
But more and more our lives are ruled by these gadgets. And it should be the other way around.

Humanity is becoming mentally and physically handicapped as a result. The most obvious is the near physical loss of the use of one hand.  And socially, many lose important human interaction due to their obsession with the gadget.

Don't Let the Three Stooges Tinker with your Teeth in Mexico!

Here's how to avoid scary dentists in Mexico.

You would know the Three Stooges, who wouldn't recognize them anywhere?

Would you allow the 3 Stooges to tinker with your teeth?  May seem be funny but in reality any Mexican general dentist untrained in advanced dental procedures can say "I specialize" in this or that and can twiddle with your teeth. And many trusting patients allow them to do just that.

Dental tourists patients from the USA and Canada need to be aware that things are not always the same in Mexico as back home. When you cross the border - truth in advertising rules go right out the window.

DENTAL TOURISM - Your Dental Vacation in The Philippines or Thailand

Thailand and Philippines Dental Holidays Checklist
By The Board Certified Asia Dentist Association

El Nido, Palawan
If your Sydney cosmetic dentist or Brisbane dental implant specialist is over-the-top on prices for you and even a Cabo San lucas dentist seems pricey - consider a dental holiday in Asia. Bangkok and Manila dentist prices are even less than Mexican dentist prices!

Here’s the the Board Certified Asia Dentist Association’s recommendations for patients considering a Bangkok or Manila dental vacation or dental holiday.

1. Get a price quote before taking off on an dental holiday in Asia - email a copy of your home dentist’s treatment plan, x-rays or panoramic x-ray (if available) to the dentist in Asia. Many dentists will give online estimates subject to a clinical exam.

Digital pictures of your teeth are almost as good as an in-the-chair exam. If none of the foregoing items are possible - don’t worry, x-rays (except panoramic x-rays) are inexpensive in Asia or even gratis at most Board Certified Dental Association dentist member clinics. Panoramics for dental implants etc. are only around $40Us in Asia vs. $150 -250 in the USA & Canada. Same equipment.

FIND THE BEST DENTISTS IN MEXICO CERTIFIED FOR WHAT YOU NEED - By the Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association

You can afford the best dentists in Mexico!  Here's how to find them.
Cabo San Lucas is a popular Mexico dental vacation destination

You have probably heard by now that one can get dentistry in Mexico at substantial savings for the same treatments in the US or Canada. But what about the quality?

In Mexico quality is problematic and here’s why. General dentists in Mexico untrained in dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, root canals etc. can legally attempt advanced dental procedures by practicing on unsuspecting patients.

This situation is not the result of any conspiracy, or criminality – just less consumer protection laws. It used to be the same situation in the US many decades ago.  But the Mexican government does not get in the way of any general dentists in Mexico who want to learn advanced dentistry the old-fashioned way – by trial and error on their patients (that’s you and me).

MEDICAL & DENTAL TOURISM ADVISER - Dr. Christina of Certified Dentists Internationale'

Get Medical & Dental Tourism Answers - Find The Best Medical & Dental Tourism Places, Best Board Certified Doctors & Dentists, By Board Certified Dentists Internationale' Patient Adviser Dr. Christina Terrado MD

Dr. Christina Terrado - Certified Dentists Internationale

Patient Adviser for Medical and Dental Tourism

Hello Everybody!

Welcome to my post where I will present information on medical and dental tourism - from the best medical tourism places, doctors and dentists to dental tourism prices. I am a Patient Adviser for Certified Dentists Internationale' (now combined with Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association).

And I am mother of two boys with autism, professional doctor and nutritionist in the Philippines - but being a mom is the best job I have had. A sweet life.

I worked as a doctor with the Philippines Department of Health for 12 years following a dream of helping humanity. I lived that dream. I saw how it is to live the way of the Pinoy. Poor, yet they know how to laugh their cares away and generous enough to give all to those who are in need.

I have felt in my heart the honor of holding a life in my hands. Of saving that life you hold or making a difference in their life. That was one of the best chapters of my life. I have seen so much, traveled a lot, and experienced how it is to live a simple but beautiful life as a mother and helping others with their medical needs.

Now I am living my passions. WRITING, which I remember my college literature professor encouraged but I have put aside for half a lifetime. I believe I am ready now, have experience and knowledge to share and am happy to be working as a patient adviser for Certified Dentists Internationale’.
I am ALSO starting to understand autism which has been in my life since my older son was two. I never realized my denial until I accepted in my heart their neurodiversity.

People with autism are often very Intelligent persons trying to make out the world with the gifts they were given. And just like when I was a doctor I intend to make a difference in their world. My legacy to my sons. There is so much to do. And I intend to live a long life to achieve what I was created in this life for.

If you have any medical or dental needs, questions about medical or dental tourism in Mexico or Asia please feel free to contact me.

Bless all.

DENTURES MADE FROM DEAD PEOPLE'S TEETH! - Backstory on Dentures, Implants, Prices

The story of dentures is not for the faint of heart!

Here's the incredible story of the origins of dentures, the discovery of the dental implant and mini implants (4 on 1)

The pre-Roman Etruscans of Northern Italy made what are considered the first dentures out of human or animal teeth in approximately 1000 BC. George Washington, one of the more famous denture wearers wore one made of hippopotamus ivory implanted in a wooden prosthesis. These first dentures were very uncomfortable and disfigured his face.

The popularity of the use of sugar in the 18th and 19th century created a rise in the number of dentists. And the demand for replacement of the public's rotten teeth. Animal teeth tended to discolor some turning yellow or brown, others blue and would rot over time.

Waterloo teeth were teeth snatched from dead soldiers from the  Napoleonic, Crimean and American Civil Wars. Although these dentures were more comfortable than those worn by George Washington, it’s unsavory origins didn’t sit well with the toothless upper class.

FEAR AND LOATHING OF DENTISTS, Dental Sedation, Sleep Dentistry by Mexico Dentist Guide

Handling Life’s Stressors - Fear of dentists, barking dogs, barking bosses

By Cabo writer David Mandich for Mexico Dentist Guide.

Avoiding stress seems an impossible challenge as we can seem overwhelmed with many kinds of stress – parenting, marital, life-changes such as getting married, divorce, death in the family, test-taking, a new job, losing a job, moving, losing your home, mall-stress, paying with plastic stress, organizational stress, holiday season stress, driving stress, getting a traffic ticket, losing your temper, perfectionism and a biggie – fear of doctors and dentists.

Especially dentists – the guys with those needles as big as your arm they stick in your mouth when you’re not looking. The list of stressors in modern life seems endless.

But there are many ways to cope with stress. Many you already know, some that may surprise you. And I’m not just talking Cuban cigars, margaritas and salsa dancing in Mexico. To lower your stress level - first identify the cause(s) of your anxieties.

What in your life is causing those headaches, backaches, light-headedness, upset stomach, racing heart, nervous tics, insomnia, weight-gain, hyper-tension, the road rage, angina attacks, phobias etc. What is it (or who is it) in your life that is making you so unhappy?

Sometimes stress is caused by poor diet, lack of exercise and sleep – all easily remedied. I’m not going to tell you to get 7 hours sleep, to stop eating all that fat, sugar, salt and consuming that liter of single malt whiskey every day for breakfast – you’ve heard it all before. And I’m not going to tell you to walk a mile on the beach every day.  Or file for divorce.

ASIAN & MEXICAN DENTAL VACATIONS OFFER GREAT SAVINGS FOR SENIORS & BABY BOOMERS

Baby Boomers and Seniors can save big money going abroad for dental work - but they have to do their homework first.

Bangkok and Manila dentists are popular dental tourism destinations

Baby Boomers,  +55,  seniors -  that ever growing segment of the US population are now going offshore in droves seeking  affordable  dentistry in  Mexico  and Asia.    They  are hoping to find good  quality  dental  care  away  from  home and are usually happy with their  results   - but  not always.

Many are lured into clinics  owned  and  operated  by  general dentists who  in many developing nations such as Mexico -  are  permitted  to learn  advanced  dental  procedures at the patient’s expense.

Expensive procedures  such as dental implants,  mini implants and cosmetic dental makeovers are often half  or less than  the cost for the same procedures back in the US,  Canada  or  other developed  nations.

FIND THE BEST BOARD CERTIFIED DENTISTS IN MEXICO & ASIA For Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Makeover, Oral Restoration, Dental ImplantS

Find the Best Cosmetic Dentist, Dental Implant and Oral Restoration Certified Dentists in Mexico

By the Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association

Dental procedures and terminology can often be confusing to the patient – especially so when advertising agencies, foreign languages and consumer protection laws in different countries are involved. The biggest challenge when going abroad remains finding the right dentist for your specific needs.

Certified Dentists vs. General Dentists - Dental tourists from developed countries need to be aware that things are not always the same as back home when considering treatments by a dentist in Mexico or elsewhere offshore. General dentists with only basic dental education are permitted in many developing countries to attempt advanced dental procedures without proper training or credentialing.

This practice is a clear violation of consumer protection laws in most developed countries - but legal in many (including Mexico) developing nations.

Thus in Mexico a general dentist may call him or herself a specialist in implants, or endodontics without having graduated from a dental specialist college. To be Board Certified, they have to pass another battery of tests after specialist college graduation. Board tests are written, lab and oral exams given by a panel of specialists in their chosen field.

By David Mandich

Seniors and other cost conscious patients are  going offshore on dental holidays for new smiles in Mexico and Asia. They finding low-cost, high-quality dental implants, dentures, cosmetic dental makeovers and oral restoration in far off exotic places where it's always warm and nearly always sunny, and the mai tai's, margaritas and beer are cold year around.

Oral restoration and dental implants are often half or less than the cost  in Asia and Mexico as they are back in the US, Canada or other western developed nations.

Dental implants costing $4-8,000us cost only $2-2,500. complete by board certified dentists in Asia and Mexico using name brand dental implants like Nobel Biocare. Certified dentist associations in Mexico and Asia can refer you to the best dentists in your preferred dental holiday destination.

Save up to 75% on your Oral Restoration on a dental vacation.

You can save tens of thousands of dollars on a full-mouth oral restoration or beautiful dental implants in a Mexican or Manila dental clinic.

An oral restoration can involve dental implants, sinus lift surgery, mini implant secured bridges, crowns, veneers, periodontal work and more.

The cost can be $45,000us to $100,000 in pricey US clinics where the staff wear black, there's marble and leather everywhere and autographed photos by celebs on the salon walls.

Whereas (roll the drums please) a full-mouth restoration will run $12,000 to $25,000 in Asia or Mexico depending on the procedures involved.

PANORAMIC X-RAY - Why You Need One by Dental Tourism News Today

My dentist wants me to have a panoramic x-ray..  What, where, why and how much?

Article by David Mandich, Health Care Travel Writer

Dental patients considering dental implants or dental travel for major dentistry are often unaware of the importance of having a strange new (since 1985) x-ray casually referred to by dentists as a pano. They toss the word around like it was a special kind of Italian bread or some kind of pantyhose everyone knows about but me.

Panoramic radiographs (aka or tomographic x-ray) show an ear to ear 180 degree view of the patient’s jaws and all the teeth as well as much of the head and neck anatomy.

The machine used is different than the standard x-ray unit as the patient generally stands while the x-ray unit travels on a semi-circular track around the patient’s head.

HOW TO FIND THE BEST DENTAL IMPLANT & COSMETIC DENTISTS IN MEXICO By Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association

The Best Dentists in Mexico.. for your cosmetic dental makeover, dental implants or other important dentistry - will always be Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association member dentists.

In Mexico..

..quality is problematic and here’s why. General dentists in Mexico untrained in dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, root canals etc. can legally attempt advanced dental procedures by practicing on unsuspecting patients.

This situation is not the result of any conspiracy – just less consumer protection laws. It used to be the same situation in the US many decades ago.

May God help and protect you if you get one of those nice young Mexican general dentists learning root canals at your expense in a border town discount dental mill.

But it gets worse - in the smaller Mexican border towns there are many clinics which prey on desperate US patients operated by unlicensed illegal alien dentists from Central America, the USA (oh yes!), dental school drop-outs,  dental technicians and worse – clinics operated by businessmen and US Insurance companies staffed with dental school grads attempting specialist work at minimal wages.

10 IMPORTANT MEXICO DENTAL VACATION TIPS by the Board Certified Mexico Dental Association

Here's some great dental travel tips when planning your trip - follow them and you'll be sure to return with a beautiful new smile.

Reprinted with permission from Dental Tourism News Today

By David Mandich, Cabo Mexico Health Care Writer

For perfect teeth and a perfect dental vacation, here are some things to keep in mind.

1. Get a good quote for your dentistry in Mexico before getting on that plane or in the car.

Send a copy of your dentist's treatment plan, x-rays or panoramic xray (if available) to the dentist in Mexico. The more information the Mexican dentist has, the more accurate quote he can make.

Photos of your teeth are almost as good as a clinical analysis. If none of the above are possible - don't worry, x-rays (except panos) are gratis at most Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association member clinics. Panoramic x-rays for dental implants etc. are only $60us in Mexico vs. $150 - 250 in the US.

2. Figure out as best as possible how many dental implants, crowns, bridges etc. you require and detail it all in the clinic's online Contact Form. Be sure to note any health issues the dentist in Mexico should be made aware of.

3. Visit the Board Certified Mexico Dental Association website to find a certified dentist qualified to do the type of procedure(s) you are seeking. Unless you are having a routine cleaning, drilling or filling - you will be assured of the best results from a certified dentist rather than a less-skilled general dentist in Mexico.

DENTAL ALERT - Inspector Clouseau Busts Boy Who Fakes Own Kidnapping to Avoid Dentist - PEOPLE MAGAZINE

A Case of Dental Phobia For Inspector Clouseau...

It was a tale straight out of a French thriller.
A 12-year-old boy on the way to see his dentist was supposedly snatched off the street by a mysterious scar-faced visitor. The kidnapper drove to Saint-Gervais, near the Alps, where the boy was able to make a lucky escape.

The boy gave Saint-Gervais police a detailed description of the man – he was European, muscular and slightly shorter than average, wearing a black shirt and light jeans.
But despite their efforts, investigators could make no headway in finding the man. He had vanished into the thin Alpine air.
This was because, as French paper Midi Libre reported, he never existed in the first place.
After a month of searching for their man to no avail, police went back to the source. They examined security-camera footage from that fateful day in Bagnols and found no hint of the scarred man in the black shirt and light jeans, and no sign of his vehicle, which the boy had so dramatically described.

Photo: Inspector Clouseau, fake French detective famed for busting the Pink Panther
They decided to interview the boy again. In the face of newly skeptical police questioners, the boy recanted everything. There never was a scar-faced man, and there never was a kidnapping. He had made it all up.
The motive? He didn't want to go to the dentist.

Running away seemed to be the only option. It's unlikely the boy will be charged with a crime, but he will likely face an even worse punishment: a trip to the dentist. Let's hope lying doesn't cause cavities.

MEXICO DENTAL TOURISM - Mexican Dentists, Mexico Dentist Prices and How We Saved - By Huffington Post

A US couple living in Mexico shares their experiences with dentists in Mexico.

Cabo San Lucas Marina - Photo courtesy of Certified Dentists Internationale'

Sometimes you just don't see it coming.

Living in Merida, Mexico, at the time, we were dashing around the house and packing for an early flight when a tall American forehead met a low Spanish Colonial doorway, and a top front tooth snapped cleanly in half.

Once we returned from the trip, we called our dentist and got an appointment immediately. In three visits, he cast a color-matched cap for the tooth, ground a post from the remaining half of the real tooth, and fit the new cap perfectly. It was as if nothing had ever happened.

In the States we estimate that we'd have paid anywhere from $800 to $1,500 for the same work, depending on the type, location and material of the cap or crown. Our dentist in Mexico charged less than $475.  Even though it wasn't a large amount, we didn't have that much cash on us.

"That's fine," he said, "bring it in when you get it."

That's dentistry in Mexico, and throughout most of the rest of Latin America where we've visited and lived. In at least five Latin American cities or towns, we've had fillings, root canals, cleanings...

And the story is always the same... great quality work at half the cost or less of the same work in the U.S.

DENTAL IMPLANT COSTS, DENTIST PRICES in MEXICO by Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association

Survey of DENTAL IMPLANT dentists, prices, in Tijuana, Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Los Algodones, Cancun, Guadalajara, Mexico City by DENTAL TOURISM NEWS TODAY. Re-posted by the Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association

Here at the Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association we found this story interesting as I am sure all of you will who are considering having dental implants or the new mini implants in Mexico. -ed

The Cost of Dental Implants in Mexico

From Dental Tourism News Today

"How much do dental implants cost in Mexico? Our Phoenix Editor at Dental Tourism News Today reviewed dental implant prices in Cabo, Tijuana, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun and found the cost dental implants in Mexico are about half of the cost of in the US and Canada but about 10-20% more than dental implant costs in Manila or Thailand.

In the US we figure around  $3,400 to $6,000 per unit and sometimes as much as $7-8,000 at a pricey clinic in the upscale part of town if a sinus lift or bone graft are involved. The prices seems to be determined by how much more marble is in then clinic salon than bone graft material being used in the patient.

In Mexico and Asia, dental implants using name brands such as Nobel Biocare are only around $1,900 - $2,500 complete.

Mini implant secured dentures or bridges (aka 4 on 1) are between $2,500 and $3,500 per upper or lower jaw in Mexico."

Wherever you decide to have your dental implants - whether in Mexico or elsewhere - be sure to follow the advice of the American and Mexican Dental Associations and use the services of a Board Certified Dentist for your advanced dental procedures.

In Mexico, certified dentists cost the same as general dentists so you can afford the best.
